MORGAN TOWNSHIP, BUTLER COUNTY, OH (FOX19) – Repeated bouts of torrential rain Tuesday afternoon and evening led to flooding early Wednesday in Morgan Township.

Elberon Avenue to finally reopen Saturday after landslides

Elberon Avenue to finally reopen Saturday after landslides

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - After being closed more than eight days, a major road from Downtown into Price Hill should go back in service Saturday.

Elberon Avenue, between Mt. Hope and Purcell avenues, is expected to reopen to traffic after 1 p.m. Saturday.

About 600 loads of soil had to be removed from the site. For comparison, only 98 loads of soil were removed after the Jan. 9, 2012, landslide on Columbia Parkway. As of Friday afternoon, there was one large tree that still had to be removed. Crews will also install erosion control at the site.

This area of Elberon has a history of active slides, and a year of unusually heavy rain accelerated the hillside's movement. The road was closed last Friday after torrential rains the preceding day.

Elberon Avenue to stay closed all week, maybe longer

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Elberon Avenue between Mt. Hope and Purcell avenues will remain closed in both directions through at least this week due to a significant landslide during the rains last week.

Tree removal crews continue clearing trees on Elberon Avenue.  More than 50 trees have fallen and slid down the slope.  Duke Energy and the Cincinnati Park Board both have crews on site.  They will be clearing trees again on Tuesday; this includes cutting up those trees that have fallen and doing some preventative maintenance for those trees that have the potential to fall into overhead electric lines.

Excavation crews are scheduled to begin removing soil Tuesday. It is expected that work will continue until the end of this week.
