Blighted building torn down in Mt. Airy

MT. AIRY, OH (FOX19)- A blighted building was torn down in Mt. Airy on Tuesday as part of the Neighborhood Enhancement Program.

The city/community partnership is an effort to remove blight, lower crime and improve the neighborhood. The blighted building was located in the 5600 block of Colerain Avenue.

Keep Cincinnati Beautiful coordinated a large-scale clean up with over 130 volunteers.

"This
is a beginning, and we hope that it continues. And I just want to thank all the sponsors we've had and all the
community members.  Every time I've asked
them, they've come out to help," said Mt. Airy Community Council President Cindy Walsh.

The community also saw a 3.7% decrease in blight over the 90 days, and Cincinnati Police District 5 officers made over 200 arrests.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The City of Cincinnati has selected a location for the first new police station to be built in the city in more than 20 years.

The new police station will serve the City's police District 3, which encompasses 14 neighborhoods on the city's Westside.

A parcel at 2300 Ferguson Road in Westwood was selected because it is located in one of the three high-call neighborhoods, it is available for development, it rated high on constructability, and because it provides physical accessibility for service to all 14 neighborhoods in District 3.

‘Animal House to Our House’ author visits Main Library

‘Animal House to Our House’ author visits Main Library

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)  - Most guys would buy the girl they liked candy, flowers, or even a ring. Award-winning writer Ron Tanner bought his girlfriend a house. That house would become the inspiration for his book “From Animal House to Our House: A Love Story.” Tanner will discuss this “love” story at the Main Library 2 p.m. Saturday, June 22, in the Reading Garden Lounge.

In 1999 Tanner met Jill Eicher, and six months later the couple bought a nearly destroyed fraternity house in Baltimore's historic Charles Village. Together, they renovated the Victorian brownstone and, five years later, got married in the house. In 2008, their remarkable rehab work was featured in “This Old House” magazine  in a story titled "From Animal House to Our House." The work is ongoing and can be seen at their DIY website, Houselove.org.
