Black Walnut Weekend | Environment
Title (Max 100 Characters)
Who knew a nut could be worth celebrating? Black Walnut Weekend recognizes Ohio’s autumn harvest as a “nutty” time for tasty foods, hikes, crafts, games and more on Saturday and Sunday, October 15 and 16 at Farbach-Werner Nature Preserve.
From 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day, visitors can sample foods like sandwich spread, ice cream and cookies prepared with the robust flavor of black walnut. There will also be a nut and tree hike through the park at the top of each hour. The celebration includes crafts, games, an opportunity to dye a 100% cotton garment (bring or buy) in a walnut bath and a live performance by Jake Speed & The Freddies from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday! Shelled nuts will also be available for purchase.
Black Walnut Weekend is free and open to the public. Farbach-Werner Nature Preserve is located at 3455 Poole Road, 45251. A valid Hamilton County Park District Motor Vehicle Permit ($10.00 annual; $3.00 daily) is required to enter the parks.
