West Side Classic to benefit Ollie Schmitt Foundation

CHEVIOT, OH (FOX19)   - Two west-side select youth baseball clubs have banded together to host a baseball tournament Saturday, May 18th at Cheviot Fieldhouse. The West Side Raiders and Cincinnati West Stars will donate proceeds collected at the game to the Ollie Schmitt Foundation.

Several families involved have benefitted from the Ollie Schmitt Foundation in the past, and the kids and coaches alike wanted to offer something in return. The Ollie Schmitt Foundation for Scholarships and Assistance benefits families and children in crisis. The Foundation is located at 3621 Glenway Ave. The Foundation aides both St. Williams School in Price Hill and Margaret B. Rost School for the Developmentally Disabled.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Members of the Germania Society are hosting a celebration to officially celebrate Spring on May 17, 18 and 19.

The 2nd annual Germania Maifest focuses more on a picnic-style, family-friendly event and will include a variety of activities, including a Maibaum (Maypole) raising, a Mai Konigen (Queen) coronation and a traditional Maitanz (May Dance) will be part of the celebration.

Entertainment for all ages will be offered throughout the weekend, including games for children and adults, face painting and rides.  Fest music includes Final Order, The Goodle Boys, Klaberheads, Alpen Echos and Schlager.  Opening ceremonies begin Saturday with the parade at 4:30pm followed by the Maiqueen coronation and keg tapping.

FOREST PARK, OH (FOX19)  - Approximately 100 households are participating in a citywide yard sale on Saturday, May 4.

Sale locations include:

·        FP Senior Center

·        Kemper Meadow Park

Anyone interested in the yard sale can pick up a paper map with sale items listed at the Forest Park City Building on West Kemper Road.

WESTWOOD, OH (FOX19) - Westwoods residents will gather on Saturday, May 4 to show support for their neighborhood.

A Good Guy Loitering group willbe set up from 7:30pm - 10pm in the 2100 block of Shaffer Avenue.

Residents and their friends are welcome to show support by sitting together and enjoying refreshments while thrying to push bad behavior out of the area.

Pre-registration open for Dehi Township clean-up day

DELHI TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - Delhi Township residents are encouraged to participate in the annual “Clean-Up Delhi Day” to be held on Saturday, May 4 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. in the parking lot of the Delhi Senior/Community Center at 647 Neeb Road.

This event will take place “rain or shine” and is open to Delhi Township residents only. Proof of residency will be required when items are dropped off. Residents must be in line by 1:00 p.m. in order to participate in this free event.

No yard waste, computer equipment, hazardous chemicals, paint, liquids, batteries or closed drums will be accepted.

Furniture, household refuse, whiteware products (washing machines, dryers, ovens, etc.) will be accepted as will lawnmowers provided that all fluids have been removed. Tires will also be accepted as long as they have been removed from the rims.

FOREST PARK, OH (FOX19) - Ask a group of eighth grade students to help solve the problem of world hunger, and solutions are quick in coming. They use social media, link up with local and national organizations, hold lunchtime fundraisers, give speeches, plan dodgeball and basketball tournaments, sponsor walks, and package meals—just to name a few strategies going on at Winton Woods Middle School. “We were given the freedom to do what we thought would do the most good,” said eighth grader Abby Ewald.

Kathleen Barger said her Advanced English students were given the topic of world hunger and asked to raise awareness or money to help solve the problem. “They can do anything they want that they think will help,” said Barger.

Earth Day Celebrated At Winton Woods Primary South

FOREST PARK, OH (FOX19) - Marigolds are brightening the campus of Winton Woods Primary South in Springfield Township as kindergarten students in Emily Isaacs’s morning kindergarten class celebrated Earth Day 2013 by planting the flowers near the school’s front doors. The flowers were donated by the Forest Park Walmart and six staff members—Shirley Isaacs, Dena Dubry, Nathan Dubry, Lori Godoy, Carrie Burg and Michael Rowekamp—helped with the planting. The afternoon kindergarten class planted flowers in containers.
