Fine Amnesty Day at Public Library forgives more than $550K in fines

Fine Amnesty Day at Public Library forgives more than $550K in fines

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)  - The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County held a special , one-time Fine Amnesty Day May 15 at all 41 Library locations in celebration of receiving a National Medal for Library Service from the Institute for Museum and Library Service.  The award is the nation’s highest honor recognizing museums and libraries for their service to the community.

Returns varied between one or two overdue items to customers bringing in bags and boxes of overdue books. Many happy customers commented on how glad they were to have a “fresh start” on their Library cards.

Many also indicated how relieved they were to have large fines forgiven, so they can once again borrow items  from the Library’s  extensive print and downloable collections (as well as be able to access a variety of online resouces).

Thanks go out to all of our Library customers who made this day a success.
