YMCA Youth and City Government students visit Ohio Statehouse

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -   A group of Cincinnati high school students, members of the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati Youth In City Government (YICG) program, say they learned a lot attending the Ohio YMCA Youth In Government Student Legislature held at the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus from April 13-15, 2013.

“The experience was overwhelming,” said Christopher Rosing, an Oak Hills High School junior.  “You get to experience democracy by putting yourself in a legislator’s shoes.”  Among the legislative proposals the teens worked on, adding 20 days to the Ohio school year, requiring a foreign language for every grade school student, increasing taxes on cigarettes, and a gun amnesty program.
